Compudon Season III- Official Rules

By taking an eligible exam and entering this Championship, participants agree to abide by all the terms of the "COMPUDON Season III" Official Rules.

Participation in COMPUDON Season III– Your Gateway to the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (hereafter referred to as "Championship") will offer the Championship on both Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 Productivity Applications.

To participate, an eligible student must submit his/her score on any of the following eligible certification exams taken between the qualifying round dates as specified on www.compudon.in

  • Microsoft Office Specialist – Word 2007
  • Microsoft Office Specialist – Excel 2007
  • Microsoft Office Specialist – PowerPoint 2007
  • Microsoft Office Specialist – Word 2010
  • Microsoft Office Specialist – Excel 2010
  • Microsoft Office Specialist – PowerPoint 2010

Hereafter, these certification exams will be collectively referred to as "Exam(s)".

All Exam(s) must be uploaded into the Certiport exam administration system by an approved Certiport Authorized Testing Center of CYBERLEARNING network within the dates and times specified here under.

Employees of Microsoft, Inc., Certiport, Inc., India CyberLearning Pvt. Ltd., its affiliates, subsidiaries, parents and related companies and agencies are not eligible.

When participating in the Championship, participants must be students currently enrolled in an approved academic institution recognized by the Center or the State in which it operates. To compete in the India finals, students must be between the ages of 13 and 22 (as of June 15, 2013). Verification of student status, student age and student identification will be done.

India Champions and/or runner ups of past COMPUDON championships/ World Championships are eligible to participate in the COMPUDON Season III Championship in any exam OTHER THAN the Microsoft Office application in which they previously won. For example, 2012 India Champion/runner up on Microsoft 2007 Excel can compete in a Microsoft Word or PowerPoint tracks, but can NOT compete in the Microsoft Excel tracks regardless of the version.

THE ORGANIZERS RESERVE THE UNQUESTIONABLE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY OR REJECT ANY ENTRY THAT DOES NOT MEET THE ABOVE CRITERIA. THE DECISION OF THE ORGNIZERS SHALL BE FINAL IN THIS REGARD. IF SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF ENTRIES MEETING THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT RECEIVED/ AVAILABLE, ORGANIZERS MAY, AT THEIR SOLE DISCRETION, SELECT FEWER THAN THE DESIGNATED NUMBER OF WINNERS. THE DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL AND BINDING IN ALL MATTERS RELATED TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

Participants must submit their scores to enter into the Championship (Qualifying Round & India Finals) in either of two ways:

1. Register Eligible Exam Immediately Prior to Testing: If the eligible Exam is taken at an ACADEMIC Testing Center, the iQsystem exam delivery tool will prompt the student to register his/her score into the Championship immediately prior to taking the exam. If the candidate chooses to submit his/her score to the Championship, the results of that exam will be automatically entered into the Championship.

2. Register Eligible Exam(s) Following Testing: Students may also register any eligible Exam(s) after taking the exam(s) by logging onto their Candidate Home Page at www.certiport.com, clicking on the Microsoft Office World Championship link, and following the registration instructions.

The applicable fee may be paid t by way of current dated cheque/draft in favor of “India CyberLearning Pvt. Ltd.” payable at New Delhi/Noida or to a CyberLearning Authorized Partner.

During the Qualifying Round, a participant can participate in MULTIPLE and Eligible Exam tracks and can take the exam(s) multiple times to increase his/her score in the qualifying round. The best score submitted by the participant in the qualifying round will be entered in to the competition. For example, participants may submit an Excel 2007 and Excel 2010 or any other eligible exam score multiple times in the qualifying round. However, they will have to choose ANY ONE Exam Track from the qualified exams of the qualifying round to participate in the India Finals. Organizers reserve the right to disqualify participants for appropriate cause.

The qualifying round exams must be taken at an Authorized Testing Center of CyberLearning Network between the hours of 8AM to 8PM IST. Exams taken/ delivered other than these hours will not be entered in to the championship, unless a proper written approval has been received from CyberLearning for a valid reason.

All participants will themselves be responsible for preparing to compete on Microsoft Office software suite version 2007 OR 2010 for the championship. CYBERLEARNING may, at its own discretion provide participants preparation materials to train on Microsoft Office 2007/2010 software but this training material should not be considered as giving any guarantee of success in the championship.

Top Score Method: Normally, the participant with the top score in the particular exam track will be shortlisted.

However, in the event that two or more participants have the same high exam score in a given track, the participant who completed the exam in the shortest time will be given priority in selection. Decisions of Organizers will be final.

CYBERLEARNING may include additional/alternative test methods other than pre-decided Microsoft Office Specialist exams at any or all levels. The selection criteria of such tests will be announced prior to the applicable level. CYBERLEARNING at its own discretion reserves all rights to modify the selection methods any time.

To ensure wider participation, CYBERLEARNING reserves an absolute and unquestionable right to restrict the number of entries per institute/ testing center in the India finals. NO enquiries or petitions in this regard will be entertained.

Odds of winning a prize will depend on the number of eligible entries received and the level of skill of each participant.

Adult eligible participants, if they are entering into a contract and Parents of participants below the age of 18 by allowing their child/ward to enter in to this competition, expressly agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless CYBERLEARNING, its employees, its associates, partners, sponsors and principals from any and all claims or liability to any third party from loss, damage or injury to persons or property based on or in any manner arising out of their participation in the championship. They further agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CYBERLEARNING, its employees, its associates, partners, sponsors and principals of and from any claims by or liability to any third party for any loss, damage, or injury to persons or property arising from the breach of any of testing center’s obligations.

No substitution/transfer/assignment of prize by any winner is permitted. The prize is not redeemable in cash and must be accepted as awarded.

All materials submitted become the sole property of CYBERLEARNING and will not be returned. False and/or deceptive entries or similar acts shall render participants ineligible to continue to participate or win the Championship. Except where prohibited, student participation in the Championship constitutes participant’s consent to publication of his/her name, Exam score(s), and city/state/country location on the Championship website and other Championship publicity without limitation or compensation. That, by accepting a prize, CyberLearning may use the personal details including but not limited to winner(s) name & photograph, school/ college and state of residence etc. online and in print, or in any other media, in connection with this Championship, without payment or compensation to the winner(s), except where prohibited by law.

Participants/Winners agree to assist CYBERLEARNINIG and the Sponsors (if any) in the creation of case studies or white papers (together "Studies") detailing their participation and/or winning. The white paper/ case study may take various forms, including printed materials, online articles, video, audio, and other digital recordings. Participants/ Winners also agree to make themselves available for interview, photo coverage or any kind of media activity with a reasonable prior notice by CYBERLEARNING.

Finalists will be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability/Prize Acceptance Form within 3days of attempted notification. Noncompliance may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner. If necessary due to unavailability, a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded at the discretion of CYBERLEARNING. Winner will be solely responsible for all applicable taxes related to accepting the prize.

It is STRONGLY recommended that all finalists (who do not have their valid passports) apply for their passports well in time and get their passports ready before India Finals. For India Champions, it is MANDATORY that they submit copies of their valid passports to CyberLearning on or before June 10, 2013, where the passport is valid till March 31, 2014. In case INDIA CHAMPION fails to submit his/her passport as above, then CYBERLEARNING at its sole discretion may allow the next qualifying participant to represent India at the worldwide finals.

All prizes will only be available in the fashion selected by CYBERLEARNING. CYBERLEARNING is not responsible for incomplete/lost/late/damaged/illegible/misdirected entries or incomplete telephone calls, faulty transmissions, recordings, malfunctions, for technical/hardware/software failures/lost/unavailable network connections, delivery failure or delay, or failed/incomplete/garbled/delayed/faulty computer transmission.

If it is required that student affirmatively accepts an invitation to compete in a subsequent round of any Championship, and the notification that will be send is returned as undeliverable for any reason, or student is otherwise unreachable for any reason, CYBERLEARNING may disqualify him/her and extend an invitation to the next qualifying participant.

CYBERLEARNING reserves the right to cancel/modify the Championship or any part of the Championship at its sole discretion and/or disqualify participant if fraud/ misconduct/technical failures destroy the integrity of Championship as determined solely by CYBERLEARNING.

Participants/Winners assume all liability for any injury/damage/loss caused/claimed to be caused, by participation in or acceptance and use of prize.

CYBERLEARNING is not responsible for any typographical or other error in printing of offer/administration of Championship/ announcement of prizes or for liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participation in accessing or downloading information in connection with this Championship.

Only the qualified finalists will be allowed to proceed to the India Finals. To be qualified, each participant must at least meet the standard minimum qualifying marks of the particular exam taken, followed by the highest mark, then the shortest time in the event of a tie in marks. If the participant achieved the highest marks (or the shortest time in the event of a tie) among all the participants, but did not meet the standard minimum qualifying marks for the particular exam, then the participant would be disqualified automatically. Certification exam re-take policy applies. Failure to comply with the re-take policy would be subject to disqualification.

Decisions of the contest judges are final - no substitutions will be available. This contest is subject to all state and central laws of India and is only for Indian resident. No refund for anything, in any form will be entertained. Foreign qualifying students who are enrolled in accredited academic institution ) in India are eligible to participate, with an understanding that should they become the winners of the India Finals and be sponsored to compete at the 2013 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP they will be representing India and not the country of their nationality, birth, or otherwise. No substitution/transfer/assignment of prize by any winner is permitted. Reporting and payment of all taxes are responsibility of each winner. All state/central laws apply.

CYBERLEARNING reserves the rights to alter, amend, change and modify the Rules and Regulations without prior notice. Such modifications, if any, will be uploaded on the championship website.

At sole discretion of CYBERLEARNING, the India Finals may have two parts. The first will consist of the standard MOS core exam. The second portion is the new component, a scenario-based task.

Participants will be given a high-resolution copy of a Word document, an Excel workbook, or a PowerPoint presentation to recreate. Participants will receive a printed set of guidelines containing specifications for the document, workbook, or presentation, and data files that can be used as building blocks to speed up the recreation of the document, workbook, or presentation. Students will be allowed up to 50 minutes to recreate the document, workbook, or presentation they are provided. To ensure a fair and quality testing experience among all participants, the new scenario-based exams will have undergone the same rigors and standards of test development as traditional online Microsoft Office Certification exams.

This portion of the exam will be taken in a secure testing lab environment with official COMPUDON proctors. The scenario-based tasks will be in English language.

The final exam score for each Exam participant will be an equal combination of the two components for the Championship.

India champions must be available to attend the COMPUDON award ceremony at New Delhi on June 8, 2013.

BECOMING INDIA CHAMPION DOESN’T MEAN AUTOMATIC SELECTION IN THE INDIA TEAM FOR WORLDWIDE FINALS. ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING CRITERIA MAY APPLY FOR SELECTION IN THE INDIA TEAM FOR WORLDWIDE FINALS.

The qualifying India Champions must also be available for all training sessions arranged by CYBERLEARNING before the world championship. Unavailability of the winners may lead to their disqualification for the next level and CYBERLEARNING at its own discretion may select the next qualifying participant. At India level, all travel expenses not explicitly listed herein are the sole responsibilities of the participant.

QUALIFYING INDIA CHAMPIONS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO TRAVEL TO USA ALONG WITH THE COMPUDON TEAM ON THE SPECIFIED DATE AND TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ON MICROSOFT OFFICE, AND RETURN BACK TO INDIA ALONG WITH THE COMPUDON TEAM ON THE SPECIFIED DATE AND TIME. IN CASE OF ANY EXCEPTIONS CYBERLEARNING WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY EXPENSES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THEIR AIRFARE, ACCOMMODATIONS, ETC. AND ANY EXPENSES NOT EXPLICITLY LISTED HEREIN, ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WIINER. TRAVEL IS SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY AND MUST BE COMPLETED ON DATES SPECIFIED BY CYBERLEARNING. NO CANCELLATION OF RESERVATION OR TRANSFER OF RESERVATION TO ANOTHER DATE AFTER RESERVATION HAS BEEN MADE.

IF A FAMILY MEMBER WISHES TO ACCOMPANY THE INDIA CHAMPION TO THE WORLDWIDE FINALS, HE/SHE WILL HAVE TO BEAR ALL THE EXPENSES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO AIRFARE, VISA, ACCOMODATION, TRAVEL, ENTRY FEES ETC.

All travelers must execute a Release of Liability prior to ticketing and must possess required travel documents (e.g. valid photo I.D, passport, visa, overseas medical insurance etc.) prior to the trip, which will be the responsibility of the participants/their parents.

CYBERLEARNING shall arrange the VISA Invitation Letter for the US Embassy for INDIA TEAM MEMBERS. CYBERLEARNING shall pay for Return Airfare, Accommodation, Meals and Related Local Transport during the World Championship for the India Team.

Acceptance of any prize constitutes permission for CYBERLEARNING and/or their agencies to use winner’s name, Exam score(s), name of institution, and city/state/country location for purposes of advertising and promotion without any compensation, unless, but only to the extent, prohibited by law. If the COMPUDON Championship or the Worldwide Finals event is cancelled for any reason, CYBERLEARNING shall have no obligation to the participants. . If winner is a minor, CYBERLEARNING will require winner’s both parents or legal guardian (as the case may be) to sign all required forms on winner’s behalf. If winners do not complete the required forms as instructed and/or return the required forms within the time period listed on the winner notification message, CYBERLEARNING may disqualify them and select the next qualifying participant without notice.

CYBERLEARNING at its own discretion may provide all the travelers/India Champions with India Team jersey/uniform. All travelers MUST be in their INDIA TEAM jersey/uniform at all times during their travel to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP and for all the interviews, photo coverage, or any media activity related to their participation in the Championship.

Only one student per exam category, i.e. India Champion, will be eligible to compete in the World Championship in Washington D.C., USA. Students will only be allowed to participate in the Championship if they are the qualified. Additional students will not be allowed to attend the World Championship and/or participate simply for the "experience".

At Certiport’s discretion, the World Championship Exam may have two parts. The first will consist of the standard core Championship exam. The second portion is the new component, a scenario-based task.

Participants may choose to take the two exam portions in staggered sessions; they do not have to take the two portions back-to-back. In addition, the scenario-based tasks will be localized in all exam languages offered in the World Championship.

The final exam score for each Exam participant will be an equal combination of the two components for the Championship.

The qualifying winners of this Championship who win to represent India at the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP may familiarize themselves with the rules of the World Championship. Such rules are given on www.officecompetition.com. All COMPUDON Season III India Team Members will also be governed by official rules of the 2013 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP as mentioned on www.officecompetition.com
